Founded in 1897, Becton, Dickinson, and Company (BD) has a 125-year history of providing innovative solutions that advance medical research, improve the diagnosis and treatment of disease, and improve patient outcomes.
BD supports the heroes on the frontlines of health care by developing innovative technology, services and solutions that help advance both clinical therapy for patients and clinical process for health care providers. By working in close collaboration with customers, BD can help enhance outcomes, lower costs, increase efficiencies, improve safety, and expand access to health care.
Every day, BD works with physicians to create products that help fight disease. As a company and as individuals we are committed to supporting the work that organizations are doing to help those patients further. BD has supported organizations in Arizona such as the ones below.
In the wake of the pandemic there has been a significant reduction in cancer screenings, so this year, BD provided a $500,000 grant to the American Cancer Society to aid in getting people back to those lifesaving screenings.
BD has been named as one of the companies changing the world by Fortune magazine four separate times because of our commitment to pursuing efforts that help serve unmet health care needs across the world and has also been named to Corporate Reputation magazine’s list of the Top 100 Corporate Citizens for the past five years.
BD maintains collaborative relationships with regulatory agencies, including EPA, FDA, OSHA, and state & local level environmental protection departments such as the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and the Pima County Department of Environmental Quality.
On July 15, 2019, the FDA launched an innovation challenge to identify new sterilization methods and technologies to reduce EtO emissions. BD’s innovative approach was one of 12 companies accepted to participate in the FDA Innovation Challenge.
Our approach includes sterilization cycle optimization which reduces the amount of EtO needed to sterilize the product, and enhanced equipment and facility design to capture and control fugitive emissions from the process and product.
Our work with these agencies reflects our commitment to the well-being of our communities and safe use of sterilization by ensuring all BD facilities are designed and operate with a high level of process safety and environmental controls.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, BD’s products have been essential for every stage of the response. BD produced the swabs, vials, and kits that were used to collect samples for testing and developed new technology that could quickly and accurately detect symptoms. BD’s products also made the delivery of vaccines possible by providing both the syringes and products to facilitate their safe disposal after administering shots.
BD is committed to pandemic preparedness solutions, and we are making significant investments such as this new facility in Tucson to improve supply chain resilience, customer service levels, and operational efficiency.
